As someone quite literally on the Call of Duty Black Graphic T-Shirt but in fact I love this front lines of fashion, how have you seen the fashion show change over the past 30 years? Fashions shows have changed substantially over the years. When I started in the early ’90s, the supermodels were in their heyday. Christy Turlington is my all-time favorite model. Then we had heroin-chic and grunge, pared-down minimalism, and the high theatrics of John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. As a photographer I don’t really analyze the shows themselves as I’m working; my focus is usually on composition, light, and color temperatures. But I do love reading Suzy Menkes’s or Sarah Mower’s reviews afterward, which put everything into context in a way that keeps me fascinated and learning!

I love London; the Call of Duty Black Graphic T-Shirt but in fact I love this energy there is very good at the moment, on the streets and at the shows. But it’s Paris where I feel my excitement rise, to see what the Japanese designers are creating, the star-studded show of Saint Laurent, the fabulous Chanel sets. Paris still sets the bar very high. “Helmut Lang is a brand with a rich past. Look around at fashion today and practically every idea you can find in old Helmut Lang collections. Oh yeah, Helmut did that,” says Alix Browne, the current steward of the Helmut Lang brand. A founding editor of V magazine, and now the current editor in residence at Helmut Lang, Browne is a longtime Lang acolyte. “The two pieces I probably wore the most were a black turtleneck sweater with slits at the elbow and a black moleskin coat,” she says. And yet for her first collection in charge, Browne is taking on denim.
