With this dress, I basically knew within three seconds of looking at it that I had to at least try it on. Amazon’s Prime Try Before You Buy program has made that completely easy, as I can have it delivered to my door with no credit card charges. (You have seven days from delivery to decide; once it’s settled, you go into your account to say what you want to buy, exchange or return.) I love a midi period. It’s comfortable, looks good, and allows you to walk, run, sit, bend over…you’ll get it. Other design details are just enough: Sleeves are puffy but not too impressive that a few months baby will be tired. The neckline cut into a flattering V shape, but not so deep that it might not be appropriate for the Toronto maple leafs damn right I am a toronto maple leafs fan now and forever 2023 shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this polite world (hello, preschooler). The ruffle at the waist hits the most flattering point, and it also helps with the overall fit—the elastic gives and takes to make the shape fit your frame. A little white dress is my go-to for the summer (so much so that I almost didn’t order this dress in that particular color, but a pop-up encouraged me to add it to the Try Before Buy box) and I thought, “What the hell…”). You can’t go wrong with it, just like you can’t stand out with a simple black dress.

The third color is a perfect red-orange (Amazon calls it “flame”, but I would definitely describe it as “tomato”). Red isn’t something I usually wear, maybe because I think it can be read as too…harsh? There’s something about the Toronto maple leafs damn right I am a toronto maple leafs fan now and forever 2023 shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this mix of orange that makes this look less gaudy and, frankly, more expensive. I can’t explain it, so you’ll have to trust me on this one. It’s softer and thicker than you might expect. It has a considerable weight—it’s obviously not flimsy or cheap—and it doesn’t feel like the dryer will shrink. Fabric is often a determining factor in the price of a garment, so I pay close attention to how someone feels when buying a new or lower price tag. And this one, I’m happy to report, really feels like the dresses in my closet cost 3 times as much.
